FIFTY new affordable homes could be built in Malvern if planning permission is granted.
The apartments in four separate three-storey buildings are being proposed for land at the back of Malvern Clinic off Pickersleigh Road.
The scheme has prompted 21 letters of objection including an 11 signature petition.
The Council for the Protection of Rural England is concerned about the access and is in favour of a smaller development, while Malvern Civic Society is concerned about the long-term maintenance of the proposed flat roofs.
However Duncan Rudge, head of development control at Malvern Hills District Council, is recommending approval.
He says: "The development represents as efficient use of this previously developed site and would provide much needed affordable housing in Malvern. Technical issues such as drainage can be dealt with appropriately using sustainable drainage systems techniques and the scheme has been amended since it was originally submitted to address issues such as overlooking and loss of amenity."
The proposal will go before the district council's southern area development control committee on Wednesday February 20.
