A PROJECT which provides emergency accommodation for young people has called for more volunteers.
Nightstop is a national network run locally by Herefordshire Supported Housing for Young People Project - SHYPP - which helps young people aged 16 to 25.
Volunteers for Nightstop take in young people at short notice to give them somewhere to stay if they are left homeless for the night. The accommodation is short-term, night-by-night only, and is backed by 24-hour support from the organisation, which also covers any expenses.
With the start of a new year traditionally marking the start of a busy time for the service, more volunteers are needed to cope with the number of young people in danger of being left on the streets.
"We need new volunteer host households and drivers," said Duncan Mcleod, coordinator for the Herefordshire Nightstop project.
"Full training is given to all our volunteers, backed with on demand support from SHYPP. They can choose whether to take in young men or young women, and specify the age of the people they are happy to accept."
