AN INCREASE in distraction burglaries has prompted a warning from West Mercia Police.
The safer neighbourhood team for Arboretum and Claines are urging people to be vigilant after an increase in distraction burglaries in the city centre and cold callers at doors.
According to the police, there are some simple but effective measures you can take to minimize risk and deal with cold callers at the doorstep.
- Check who knocks on your door before answering using a window or peephole.
- If it's not someone you know and trust, do not open the door.
- Tell unexpected business callers to leave and come back later at an agreed time when you can have someone else with you.
- Check credentials by calling the organisation they claim to represent.
- Report suspicious activity to the police, no matter how small it may seem.
Police are asking residents to share these tips with any older or vulnerable family, friends or neighbours.
