RESIDENTS across Worcestershire are being urged to keep their homes safe and secure.
West Mercia Constabulary launched its Lighten Up campaign in November to offer householders easy to follow crime prevention advice about how to protect their homes against burglars.
Local Policing Teams across the force area distributed 25,000 crime prevention leaflets and 10,000 low energy light bulbs, donated by npower.
House burglary has fallen by 44 per cent in the last three years and remains a rare crime across the force area, with less than one per cent of homes being burgled each year.
However, the force's Crime and Safety surveys show that this is the one crime people worry about the most.
Householders are advised to leave lights on when they go out, install timer switches and external dusk to dawn lighting and to always ensure all windows and doors are locked and gates and garages are well secured.
