AN Evesham man was seen to drop a kitchen knife on his way to a nightclub in the town, a court heard.
Neil Collins said he had found the knife earlier in the evening and was intending to take it home.
But when he decided to go to Innuendos nightclub in Bridge Street, he threw the knife away.
However, he was spotted by a member of the public who alerted the doormen and the police were subsequently called.
Collins, 35, of Port Street, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court and admitted a charge of being in possession of a bladed object in a public place on Sunday, February 3.
Susie Duncan, mitigating, said Collins had a drink problem and also suffered mental health issues. She told the court that both his father and brother had committed suicide.
"He said he was drunk at the time," she said. "Drink has been an issue for him. He has been going to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)."
Miss Duncan said there had been no indication that Collins had intended to use the knife at all.
The case was adjourned to Thursday, March 6 to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Collins was released on unconditional bail.
