A WORCESTER man has been given a curfew and community order after assaulting his friend on Christmas Day.

Benjamin Harris, of Sebright Avenue, Ronkswood, Worcester, was having a drink with an acquaintance on Christmas Eve.

When they left Harris punched him once to the right eye and cheek, knocking him to the floor with the blow.

When he was interviewed by police Harris said he had thrown the punch because of an argument over a young woman.

Harris admitted the assault when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Paul Stanley, defending, said Harris's issues were two-fold: alcohol and anger. He also stated the two men had had a conversation since the assault and had "all but made up."

"He is extremely sorry for what he has done," he said.

Harris was given a 12-month community order with a supervision requirement and a two-month curfew which states he must remain at home between 7pm and 6am.

He was also told to attend Worcester Community Alcohol Action team for up to eight sessions and ordered to pay his victim £100 compensation and £60 court costs.
