HEREFORDSHIRE is to host its first gay festival this month.
Out In The Sticks, which celebrates national Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month, will feature films, live drama, talks and a one-day conference aimed at gay people in rural communities.
Events, led by Herefordshire Council's diversity team, range from Oscar-winning film Brokeback Mountain at the Courtyard, in Edgar Street, Hereford, to a Sing-a-long-a Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a special comedy club - Comedy Camp.
Scottish comedian Rhona Cameron, patron of LGBT Youth Scotland, is also taking part.
Cameron, who will perform at the Courtyard on Wednesday, February 27, wrote in the introduction of the Out In The Sticks brochure that she looked forward to visiting.
"Despite positive changes in legislation and society, Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people still experience disadvantage, prejudice and discrimination," she said.
"Events like this the festival are key to challenging the homophobia and transphobia that underscores this inequality, and are vital for supporting people in LGBT communities who have suffered because of it."
