WORCESTER News readers have reacted with anger at plans to cut transport funding for disabled children in Worcestershire.
Outraged readers have posted their comments regarding disabled children losing their right to free school transport here on this website.
Earlier this week we revealed the county council had announced plans to remove the automatic right of all disabled youngsters in the county to get free transport to school.
Councillor Liz Eyre, the Conservative cabinet member for children and young people's services said that as disabled children already receive the disability living allowance they should not have free transport as well.
Pommygranit, of Worcester said she was "out of touch" with children's needs.
Angry Jodee1kenobi, of Stourport, said it was not parental choice to send a child to special school as it was the only suitable place for them.
"Yes we have DLA but this pays for extra fuel costs due to hospital appointments. It is also to pay for much-needed equipment that isn't able to be supplied by occupational therapy because they have a lack of funds," she said.
Mich of Droitwich said her five-year-old son, who has communication and sensory disability, attends a special school but does not qualify for free transport.
"He loves the journey on the bus and I have the peace of mind knowing he is getting to school safely. I am in the bracket where they would expect me to pay for it but then that would be coming out of the money we need for equipment and therapeutic activities," she added.
Logik, of Worcester said he found the decision by the council "despicable".
KJ of Malvern added: "My son attends special school in Worcester while my daughter attends our local one in Malvern.
"We as parents have it hard enough coping with their needs let alone the worry of getting them safely to school nearly eight miles away morning and afternoon."
KJ added they would love for their child to go to mainstream schools, but said: "I do not choose to have my child sent to Worcester or for him to have a disability, we may get DLA but as for any other specialist help, no chance."
And Trappy, of Malvern, said they believed Liz Eyre was right.
"Liz Eyre does have a point regarding the DLA. If they get the mobility component, then they are already receiving help towards any travel costs that they may have, sorry."
