YOUNG people from Worcester are being invited to join an advisory board for a youth volunteering charity.
An organisation called V is looking for dynamic and enthusiastic 16-to-24-year-olds with fresh ideas to join its v20 youth advisory board.
v20 gives young people a voice, enabling them to effect change for their peers across the country. The organisation is looking for a diverse group who can bring their unique talents, backgrounds and experiences to v20.
V's mission is to inspire a new generation of young volunteers. Working with the private, public and voluntary sectors, it awards funding to organisations, as well as young people themselves, to create innovative projects that benefit the community and offer 16-to-25-year-olds more opportunities to volunteer.
The role of v20 is to influence the work and direction of V to ensure young people are at the heart of everything it does.
Jo Theodolou, aged 21, and a current v20 member, said: "Being part of v20 is a fantastic opportunity that I'd recommend to any 16 to 24-year-old in the Worcester area. It's an amazing chance to help improve things for other people and as a member of v20 it's hard not to have fun, especially when you have nineteen energetic colleagues.
"It has been daunting at times, such as when delivering presentations to young people and politicians, but when I look back I'm really proud of how much we've achieved. Activities such as the launch of vinvolved, which will provide 500,000 new, exciting volunteering opportunities, and vcashpoint, where young people can apply for up to £2,500 to run their own volunteering projects in their local communities, have been amazing to work on. Volunteering and the role of young people in society is such a topical issue just now, there's never been a more exciting time to get involved."
Any young person in the Worcester area keen to take up the v20 challenge should visit www.vinspired.com for more information and to download an application pack. Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 and able to attend eight weekend residential courses a year and devote an additional 10 hours a week, either in person or online, to V's work.
