THERE was plenty of unexpected talent on show at the Hundred House Hotel, Great Witley, near Worcester, when Worcestershire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs held its annual Member of the Year and Stars in their Eyes competition.
Young Farmers Club members from around the county went head to head as they were grilled by a panel of judges on achievements during the last year in YFC, their aspirations for the future as well as their all round knowledge.
Mr YFC was awarded to Dave Talbot from Crowle and Miss YFC to Katie Brian from Bromsgrove.
The judges then re-interviewed the winners and runners up and selected Katie Brian as the overall member of the year. Emma Wormington from Bromsgrove was awarded junior member of the year.
Katie and Emma will go forward to represent Worcestershire in the West Midlands area round in March, where they will compete against Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire for a place in the National Final. Later during the evening guests were entertained by the Stars in their Eyes competition. The acts included Eva Cassidy, Girls Aloud, Oasis and the Spice girls. Wythall, Bromsgrove, Inkberrow and Cutnall Green clubs competed.
The judges commended the entrants on their extremely high standards before awarding Phillippa Richar sang Somewhere over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy. Phillippa will also go on to represent the county in the West Midlands area round.
