A MOUNTAINEER whose life-or-death experience was turned into an award-winning film is set to thrill a Worcestershire audience.
Simon Yates, one of the world's most prolific and accomplished mountaineers, is due to give a talk about his incredible experiences at Malvern Theatres in March.
Mr Yates is best known for a life-changing decision he made in 1985 while climbing Peru's Siula Grande.
Mr Yates's climbing partner Joe Simpson had a severe fall. Believing him to be dead, Mr Yates made the stark choice to cut the rope that joined them in order to save his own life.
However, Mr Simpson was not dead and survived to co-write a best selling book about the near-death experience.
It was an adaptation of the book, the BAFTA award-winning film Touching the Void, that made both men household names.
Mr Yates, who lives in the Lake District, is now touring the UK recounting the highs and lows of life as a mountaineer in the lecture-show Beyond the Void.
He promises a lecture of dry wit, both inspirational and entertaining, while stunning images transport the audience to some of the most treacherous peaks in the world.
Beyond the Void is at the Malvern Theatres on Tuesday, March 4.
