RESIDENTS of two Worcester housing estates are being encouraged to get involved in cleaning up their neighbourhood.
Worcester Community Housing (WCH) is urging communities in Tolladine and Warndon to get involved in activities next week to make the estates a nicer place to live.
The housing association is organising a Tidy Tolly Day in Tolladine on Valentines day when local people and support agencies such as Worcester City Council and the Duckworth Trust, will come together to help kiss goodbye to rubbish on the streets.
Tolladine estate manager Kelly Hibbert said: "The Tidy Tolly Day is an excellent example of how partner agencies and residents can work together to make a difference to local communities. We are hoping that the day will be a huge success and that as many Tolly residents as possible come along and help us to make a difference.
"We are specifically looking to Tolly's young people to rise to the litter picking challenge. That's because after the hard work and lunch we are looking to pick their brains and ask them for their views on the plans we have to transform the Rose Avenue Play Area. We are really keen to find out what they think."
Meanwhile, youngsters aged between 11 and 15 in Warndon are being invited to join a trolley and litter squad to remove rubbish from the estate's streets.
Together they will hunt down stray shopping trolleys and picking litter.
Trolley and litter squad organiser Jan Simpson said: "Abandoned trolleys and litter are problems that affect estates everywhere. Lazy customers wheel their shopping home then, rather than return the trolley, simply dump it in the street.
"The same goes for litter. In Warndon we are determined to get these problems off the streets and are looking to youngsters to come and help with the clean up."
Anyone taking part in either event will receive a free lunch. The Tidy Tolly event will take place on Thursday, February 14, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
It will kick off at the Tolly Centre. Call Mrs Hibbert on 01905 670197 or 07789 275620 to find out more.
Children interested in taking part in the Warndon event should meet at Warndon Neighbourhood Office on Wednesday, February 13 at 10am.
Parental permission is needed and numbers are limited to 20. Call the Warndon office on 01905 670207.
