YOUNGSTERS from a Worcester school have found out first hand what it was like to be alive in the city during Roman times.
Pupils from Gorse Hill Primary School were visited by volunteers, dressed in period costume, from the re-enactment group Discover History.
They learned about what the Romans would have eaten, how their food was cooked and had the chance to try on armour during the visit.
They also learned different battle tactics which would have been used by soldiers and found out basic details, such as what the Romans used as toilet paper.
Paul Harding, who runs the organisation, said: "Pictures paint a thousand words so to be given the opportunity to not only see things close up but to try them on, feel them or even smell them brings a period of history much more to life for children.
"They will remember this experience much more than from just reading about the age in a history book."
