A POPULAR BAKER from Worcester has closed during the heatwave because it's too hot to bake.
Ben Thatcher is the owner of the popular bakery called Bon Sucrèe on All Saints Road in Worcester.
Since opening in May, the self-taught baker has gained popularity for his signature hand-crafted cakes.
This week, in light of the Met Office's unprecedented red weather warning, Mr Thatcher has decided to close his bakery doors till Friday.
The baker usually bakes on Monday and Tuesday and sells those fresh cakes throughout the week.
Mr Thatcher said: "I'm closing, the kitchen will probably hit 50°c in this heat and I'm not happy to bake in that sort of temperature.
"Monday and Tuesday are usually the days I bake.
"When I was working in Spain, the kitchen used to get very hot and I'm not doing that again.

"If you're not used to working in this heat, you might get heat stroke and most people in the UK aren't used to working in these conditions.
"It's not safe working with fresh dairy at this temperature.
"I feel sorry for any chefs working in this weather. I know a few places have decided to close, it is not safe.
"I will be re-open on Friday.
"In this heat, the cakes won't sell as well, people want ice creams or to sit in a beer garden."
However, the 38-year-old says he's been really pleased with how people have responded to his bakery since opening earlier this year.
Mr Thatcher is known for creating a fusion of flavours in his cakes and even has a unique spinach cake.
"We've got some regular customers now and more and more people know where the bakery is, so I'm pleased with how it's going.
"People are enjoying the fresh bread and paninis at the moment.
"Lots of people are concerned with their summer bodies right now and they are watching their weight.
"But in Autumn when people are wearing jumpers, cake sales will go up and it will be my time to shine."
