THE team from a prestigious city restaurant and pub, which closed earlier this year, has set up a new venture.

The popular Old Rectifying House, which was mentioned in the Michelin Guide, closed due to on-going flooding.

Now owner Matt Denwood and his team are opening new restaurant Hash next to The Body Shop on Chapel Walk in Worcester.

Hash is currently undergoing renovations before opening to the public but Simon Rallings, head chef, said he's excited about the new location because it will increase trade.

Mr Rallings, who worked at The Old Rectifying House for 11 years said: "We will get more passing trade right outside Crowngate, whereas with the Old Rec people used to come to us to visit.

"The food will be slightly different, we'll do breakfasts, early suppers and light lunches alongside our à la carte food.

"We want our new restaurant to make everyone feel at home, whether you come for a croissant and a coffee before work or you're coming for dinner or lunch.

"Some of the same dishes are coming over, we want to serve nice and simple food."

Mr Rallings said he is excited to ditch his overalls for his apron once all the construction work is done.

He said: "We can't wait. It would be nice to get out of decorating mode and get back into the cooking mode."

The chef also said he's happy to see so many new bars and restaurants opening around Worcester since COVID-19.

He said: "There are so many people in town opening new things and it's good to give people in Worcester a choice after two years of lockdown."

Although the opening date has not yet been confirmed the restaurant owners hope to open in four to five weeks. And the provisional opening times are Tuesday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm.

The Old Rectifying House, which sits next to the River Severn in North Parade, fell victim to Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin in February.

The venue had been flooded three times in the past three years, following floods in January last year and in February 2020.
