A BANNED driver who tried to pretend he was not behind the wheel by moving to a passenger seat has been jailed.
Nathan Parmar, who has a string of driving offences, had fallen back "to bad habits” a court heard from a defence solicitor who failed to persuade magistrates to give him one last chance.
Parmar admitted driving while disqualified, failure to co-operate with a preliminary test, using a motor vehicle without third party insurance, and failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Tuesday (July 12).
Parmar also admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class B drug, cannabis.
Mark Hambling, prosecuting, told magistrates police’s attention was drawn to a blue Audi on June 8, which they followed through Stoulton.
The prosecutor said the 30-year-old had then stopped, pulling into a private property’s driveway.
“It is the officer’s belief he had taken himself out of the driving seat, and put himself in the rear of the vehicle,” Mr Hambling said.
“Officers speak to Parmar, who is disqualified until October 2024.
“Cannabis is seized – he is asked to provide a (drug) swab, he fails to provide that.
“At the police station he fails to provide a breath sample.”
The prosecutor added police also found his knuckleduster with him.
Mr Hambling went through his extensive list of previous offences including:
- aggravated vehicle taking that led to him getting a suspended prison sentence in 2012.
- Jailed for drink driving and driving without insurance in 2017.
- Jailed in 2019 for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drink driving and driving without insurance.

The prosecutor added: “Mr Parmar has no regard for people who use the roads – if he did he wouldn’t be driving.”
Katherine Maynereid, defending, said Parmar, of Head Street Pershore and formerly of Westminster Road, Worcester and Avon Street, Evesham, was trying to turn his life around.
Ms Maynereid said he was working as a kitchen fitter and had responsibilities as he is a dad-of-one with another on the way.
"He had given a friend a lift home," Ms Maynereid said.
“He has changed, it may be difficult to believe.”
Chairman Jayne Burton told Parmar, who brought a bag in the dock with him, to stand.
Parmar nodded as he was told he would be jailed for 17 weeks, the chairman adding that his previous convictions meant it could not be suspended.
He was also given a 48-month driving ban.
