PEOPLE are being invited to give feedback on proposals for the creation of a bus corridor along Newtown Road in Worcester at a meeting tonight.

The county council is looking to improve bus travel along the road - one of the main arteries into the city - and is currently consulting on phase one of the project, which covers the section from Sheriff Street to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Residents, bus users, businesses and health practitioners along the route are all being asked for their views.

The plans are part of a drive by the county council to try and upgrade several key routes in the city with a package of measures aimed at encouraginge people to use their cars less and improving and revitalising the quality and speed of passenger transport journeys.

Stephen Harrison, passenger transport development team leader, said: "We have listened to the residents of Worcester on their perceptions of passenger transport and they have told us that in order for bus travel to be more attractive they would expect services to be more reliable, quicker, of higher quality and less expensive than they are at present. We are taking the Bus Rapid Transit approach to meet these demands and to help create a desirable, viable, alternative to the car for journeys within Worcester."

A meeting will be held at Holy Trinity and St Mathew Church Hall in Lichfield Avenue, Ronkswood, tonight between 6pm and 8pm and another meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 13 from 10am and 12pm.

Phase two, which covers Sherriff Street to City Walls Road, will also be consulted upon to address the congestion issues closer to the city centre later in the year.
