Hundreds of people lined the streets of Worcester as the carnival made a triumphant return to the city. 

The parade started at Pitchcroft and made its way through the city, where thousands of residents cheered, waved and took photos as the floats completed their circuit back at Croft Road. 

After the parade, celebrations continued at Pitchcroft with a grand stage putting on a variety of performances throughout the day, numerous children's activities, trampolines, face painting and refreshments.

Julie Thomas attended the parade and carnival celebrations with her family.

She said: "I was quite tearful seeing all the kids performing, it was really amazing to watch."

Ruth Barnes and Kerry Milne brought their children along to Pitchcroft to join in the carnival fun.

Ruth Barnes said: "It's been a great day so far. We caught a little bit of the carnival but now we can't get our kids off of the bouncy castles."

Kerry Milne added: "It's so cheap as well - they can spend unlimited time on the bouncy castles with the children's wristbands which are only £3 or two for £5. 

"The face painting is free too."

Following a two-year hiatus due to the covid-19 pandemic, the theme for this year's carnival was 'celebration'.

Organisers aimed to celebrate Worcester as a city and the people who live in it. 

Melanie Eastwood, who was crowned as the 2022 Carnival Queen, said: "It is great to see so many people turn up, especially with the weather being touch and go.

"I was on the Cathedral Belles float and I had 13 girls to look after and they were all absolute angels.

"It's been a fantastic day."

Live music and dancing took place on the community stage at Pitchcroft throughout the day and into the evening, celebrating local talent from Worcester.

A spokesperson for Worcester Carnival said: "What a day that was.

"Big thanks to all who took part - we couldn’t do it without you.

"Thanks also to our Queen and Princesses."

The carnival village opened at 11 am and performances took place all the way through to 7.30 pm.
