AN IT specialist who groped two Worcester women on the street has had his potentially life-long jail term overturned on appeal.

Dariusz Kocoj, aged 22, of Ombersley Road, Worcester, will now serve two years jail after his successful appeal yesterday.

Kocoj, who came to England from Poland in 2005, told his first victim they would be "good together" and groped her breasts and bottom.

Two days later, he grabbed another woman's private parts in front of her boyfriend.

Kocoj, of Ombersley Road, Worcester, admitted two counts of sexual assault at Worcester Crown Court on October 1 last year and was sentenced to indefinite imprisonment for public protection (IPP).

Almost identical to a life term, the IPP sentence meant Kocoj could have no hope of release until he could persuade the Parole Board he posed no serious public danger.

The tough sentence was imposed after a pre-sentence report assessed Kocoj as "predatory, obsessive and driven by sexual desire, regardless of the consequences".

He was also ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register for life.

Yesterday Lord Justice Keene, sitting with Mr Justice Cooke and Judge Hall at London's Criminal Appeal Court, ruled it was wrong to classify Kocoj as a dangerous offender, and overturned the IPP, replacing it with a conventional two-year jail term.

His obligation to sign on the sex offenders register was also reduced to ten years. Allowing the appeal, Lord Justice Keene said Kocoj had been unfairly classified as "dangerous" and a potential rapist in the pre-sentence report.

The judge concluded that his crimes, while nasty for the victims, were far below the level of seriousness which would justify an indefinite IPP sentence.
