West Mercia Police has confirmed that there were 'a number of reports of criminal damage on roads around Worcester'.

We heard from one man who said the back window of his car was 'shot out' as he drove towards Claines on the A449 at 4.30pm yesterday.

West Mercia Police has launched an appeal for witnesses. A spokesman said: "Between 4.30pm and 5pm on Monday we received a number of reports of criminal damage on roads around Worcester.

"At around 4.30pm a vehicle window was smashed while driving on the A449 between Ombersley and Claines. Shortly after we received reports that a shop window on Deansway, Worcester, had been shot at by what is believed to have been a pellet gun. A small ball bearing was later found inside the shop.

"Around 4.50pm we then received reports of vehicle windows being shattered while driving on the M5 between junctions 5 and 7.

"The incidents are being linked and it’s thought those responsible for the damage were in a white BMW 3 series, officers are carrying out enquiries to locate the vehicle."

Detective Sergeant Luke Papps said: “Thankfully, no-one was injured during these incidents but I understand the concern caused to the local community and want to reassure local residents that we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

DS Papps is appealing for information from the public. He added: “These incidents took place at a busy time on main roads in Worcestershire so there are likely to be people who witnessed them or have dash cam footage.

“I urge people to check CCTV or dash cam for footage which may have captured something that will help with the investigation and help us find those responsible.”
