THE FIRST day of RMT railway strikes has affected millions of commuters across the country.
Union members from West Midlands, Great Western Railway and Network Rail have been outside Worcester Shrub Hill since 5am on Tuesday (June 21.)
About 50,000 railway workers are taking part in a three-day strike and Worcester News has put together a series of pictures of how the first day went.
Railway staff have been outside Worcester Shrub Hill since 5am today (Tuesday).
The three-day strike will continue on Thursday (June 23) and Saturday (June 25) and will be the biggest strike since 1989.
GWR said on strike days there will be no services running at Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill, Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Worcestershire Parkway, Pershore, Evesham, Colwall, Ledbury or in the Cotswolds.
West Midlands Railway said: “If you do travel, expect severe disruption and plan ahead.”
West Midlands Railway, which runs services running between Birmingham and Worcester, is advising customers to only travel by train if their journey is essential and they have no other means of transport available.
However, union members have been handing out leaflets to onlookers throughout the day.
Motorists have been honking horns throughout the day in solidarity.
The first day of the strike has encouraged millions of train users have been urged to find alternative routes and some have looked to taxi drivers.
A taxi driver from Worcester spoke to our reporter and said: "I'm expecting a quiet day" because people won't be looking for a taxi into the town centre.

Railway workers were outside the train station till 5pm in the evening.
Union members from Great Western Railway were waving their flags at onlookers and motorists on Pickett Line outside Worcester Shrub Hill.
A sign read 'RMT Strike - HONK SUPPORT' and cars were honking their horns as they drove past Worcester Shrub Hill Railway Station.
In light of the strikes, staff from Foregate Street put up several signs to inform passengers that there will not be any train services today.
Worcester Foregate Street train station did not see as many commuters at 7am this morning due to the strikes.
The strikes will continue on Thursday and Saturday in June.
