DEDICATED war-gamers who love a weekend of dice-rolling and socialising but hate the limitations of opening hours or having to clear away the table and models because someone else needs the garage now have the ideal solution.
In a first for the UK, Hobby Haven Limited has set up shop in Inkberrow – a dedicated venue providing somewhere to stay and war-game in an environment specifically geared for that purpose.
The idea is the brainchild of Jon Owens and has been running for about three months.

Hobby Haven provides the setting and the scenery, with the space and facilities to get that perfect game in. Accommodation is on site, so fans can game long into the night without worrying about opening hours.
Jon said: “We took custom-built shipping containers that started life 20-years ago as a LAN (local area network) gaming venue, and converted it into a gaming hall and accommodation.
“It’s been months of grafting, but the end result is something I can be really proud of.
“One of the challenges of rolling dice with your friends here in the UK is space – there are plenty of friendly gaming stores you can go to and get a game in (personally I would recommend Worcester Wargames for that very purpose).
“You can set-up a board in your house or garage for a game or two. But few of us have the room to have a dedicated gaming space that allows you to leave your table and models out for an extended period. Hobby Haven is setting out to solve that problem.
“You hire the venue for a weekend, and it’ll provide everything you need for the ideal gaming experience.
“No opening hours, no restrictions on food and drink. Tables already set up.”
The set-up of the venue is simple – 12ft of gaming tables and racks of scenery from a variety of eras and game systems, from historical to science fiction.
Accommodation is provided in the bunk-room, so gamers can make the most of their “geek retreat”.
Much better to crawl into bed after a chaotic day, and be there raring to go when morning comes.
There’s a fully fitted kitchen so you can keep yourselves fed throughout, as well as several village pubs nearby.
Ready? Then game on!
