THE headteacher of a Worcester primary school is outraged over a break-in at the school which has left them without a water-tight roof and with £500 worth of damage to their storage sheds.

Sheds and a garage used to store outdoor play toys for the nursery and reception pupils at Perry Wood Primary and Nursery School were broken into, the windows smashed and the door forced open. Further inspection of the school showed 60 metres of lead flashing, worth £2,000, had been removed from the school's roof.

"We have incurred a huge cost, probably a total of £500, to repair the sheds and garage and one of the sheds might be irreparable," said headteacher Julia Rogula.

"The children could have gone down and got hurt, it is totally thoughtless."

A neighbour called the police when he saw two youths acting suspiciously around the school, in St Alban's Close, Ronkswood, Worcester, at 11.17pm on Monday, February 4.

"I would like to give thanks to our wonderful neighbours, one of them saw it and phoned the police for us, and they disturbed it," Miss Rogula said. When police arrived at the scene they conducted a search of the area and located a silver Peugeot 206 which was seized. Police have since recovered the lead flashing, but no arrests have been made.

Police want to hear from anybody who saw the Peugeot in the area and are appealing for witnesses who saw the two youths, one of whom was dressed in a grey tracksuit with a hood, acting suspiciously. If you have any information call 08457 444 888 or 0800 555 111.
