POSTERS are being attached to ambulances in Worcestershire, warning the public about the consequences of attacking staff.
West Midlands Ambulance Service is putting the posters, which bear the slogan "Your Choice of Treatment" and show the picture of a paramedic and a police officer, on all of its vehicles.
It is a stark reminder that people who attack ambulance staff will be dealt with by the police.
Steve Elliker, regional security specialist and safety manager, said the service was putting up the posters to support an ongoing campaign by the Department of Health.
He said since April 2007, 110 physical assaults on the service's staff had been reported.
So far, 32 people have been convicted. Their punishments include; being placed on the sex offender's register, curfews, tagging orders, police cautions and supervised community work.
"These posters act as yet another reminder that it is simply not acceptable, whether intentional or not, to attack our staff whose job it is to save lives," said Mr Elliker.
"We actively pursue every case that is reported to the trust by staff. There are no exceptions."
