ENFORCEMENT action has been taken against more than 120 drivers in Worcester as several untaxed cars were clamped in a single street.

Vincent Road, off Wyld's Lane in Worcester proved a hotspot as the DVLA clamped several vehicles across the city on Tuesday, some parked right next to each other.

We reported yesterday how cars were clamped across Worcester as the DVLA took action against drivers who had no tax or MOT.

The DVLA yesterday confirmed that 123 enforcement actions had so far been taken against untaxed vehicles in Worcester this year.

These have been described as 'just day-to-day routine operations'.

The DVLA holds in excess of 44 million vehicle records and therefore 'do not have to be on the road to spot an untaxed vehicle', a spokesman confirmed.

Their 'wheelclamping partners' will also use automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) technology to assist in their search.

"So there really is nowhere to hide a vehicle if it isn’t taxed" said a spokesperson.

Tax can be paid via Direct Debit and online services are 'quick and easy to use'.

A DVLA spokesperson said: “Wheel clamping is one of a range of enforcement measures used to tackle vehicle tax evasion.

"As part of their day-to-day enforcement activities, DVLA’s national wheel clamping partner goes to different areas of the country to clamp or impound any untaxed vehicles seen on the road.

"Whilst over 98 per cent of vehicles on the road are taxed correctly, it is right that we take action against those who break the law and don’t tax their vehicle.”
