CYCLISTS are being invited to visit Dr Bike at a special surgery in Worcester this week.
Worcestershire County Council's Choose How you Move Dr Bike cycle surgery will be open for business outside Worcester College of Technology on Wednesday between 9am and 4pm.
He will offer free safety checks, free minor repairs and, for the first 100 people to visit, a free Select-a-Mark service worth £3.50.
Select-a-Mark is linked to a national register to ensure any stolen bikes that are seized or found - anywhere in the country - can be returned to their rightful owners.
Councillor Derek Prodger, cabinet member for the enviornment, said: "Cycling is beneficial to the environment, your health and helps reduce traffic congestion. Ensuring that your bike is in good working order is essential to be safe on the roads and I would recommend that everyone takes advantage of this excellent Dr Bike free cycle surgery."
Crime risk manager for South Worcestershire Police Mike Stephenson, added: "Bike thefts in the city have reduced dramatically in recent months but we do not want cycle owners to get complacent.
"Bikes are expensive things and using Select-a-Mark is just one of the great ways to help ensure your property is protected. It is also important to lock bikes up securely whenever they are left unattended and to also keep them out of sight of opportunistic thieves where possible."
The Dr Bike service is run by the Worcester-based charity Motov8 on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.
Those wanting to book a Dr Bike session for their school, organisation or business should call Motov8 on 01905 619038 or e-mail motov8@supanet.com
