THE son of ‘lotto gran’ Susanne Hinte has admitted a string of thefts including taking a schoolboy’s bike.

Brandon Scott’s life spiralled into drug-taking and crime after finding her body in August 2019, Worcester magistrates heard.

Scott hung his head as he admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order, a spree of shop thefts - 11 in total - and the theft of the bike when he appeared in court of Monday, (May 30).

The offences took place between September 2021 and January this year, with pizzas, steaks, cheeses, ice lollies, clothing, cleaning products and washing up liquid among the items stolen from Co-op, Tesco, Londis, B&M Bargains, Matalan and Iceland stores in Worcester and Malvern.

And the 24-year-old also stole a total of £208 worth of goods including toys, advent calendars, LED lights, candles and electric toothbrushes during two visits to Wilkinson in Malvern.

Sarah Hurd, prosecuting, read out the statement of the schoolboy who was the victim of the bike theft.

The victim said he had relied on his bike to see his friends, and the school boy had worried he would be the one to get into trouble after it was taken in Malvern on January 9 this year.

Ms Hurd said: “The bike has never been recovered.

“The thefts amount to about £300 in compensation to the companies.”

Ms Hurd added Scott had been on a community order at the times of the offences, having last been before magistrates in October.

Judith Kenney, defending, then began explaining who the defendant was and his connection to Miss Hinte, Scott sobbing as he appeared on a videolink from HMP Hewell.

Miss Keeney said: “Brandon Scott was close to his mother, he would say he was a ‘mummy’s boy’.

“He found her struggling and she died.

“He had to deal with, prior to that, her notoriety as the ‘lotto gran’ with the washed lottery ticket.

“He struggled with that too.

“Not long after that he lost the home, and a child. He became addicted to class A drugs – an opportunity to bury his problems.

“Once it got hold of him he became involved in criminal activity.”

The solicitor said Scott was seeking help from Cranstoun in Worcester, adding she was confident spending five weeks in custody would “put him back on track”.

After 10 minutes of deliberation magistrates announced they were giving him a new community order, lasting a year, requiring him to complete 20 rehabilitation activity days.

He was also given a 16 week curfew at his home address in Parletts Way, Powick.

And Scott was told to pay £300 compensation to the victim, £262 owed to the shops, and £95 in victim surcharge.

Vicky Quarton, chairman of the magistrates bench, agreed the amount could be paid in full at a rate of £40 per month.

The prosecutor then asked Scott be placed on a criminal behaviour order banning him from entering the shops, adding “Malvern needs a rest from him”.

That application was adjourned for three weeks, due to be heard at the court on June 24.

Ms Hinte was given the ‘lotto gran’ moniker in January 2016 after sending a lottery ticket to Camelot questioning whether she’d won half of the National Lottery jackpot, worth £66m, claiming that the ticket had been damaged in her washing machine.

Ms Hinte died in August 2017, aged 49, following a suspected heart attack at her home in Borrowdale Drive, Worcester.
