VISITORS to Worcester will be able to step back in time when a re-enactment group brings characters from the last 600 years to life on the city's streets.

Living History is planning the event at the Guildhall on Saturday, February 16.

Visitors will meet the cream of Napoleon's fighting force, the loyal Redcoats of Queen Victoria and the dashing Royalist supporters who will be having a feast with King Charles II himself.

Weaponry from the Tudor period to the Second World War will also be on display.

More recent historical characters taking part will include the Birmingham Pals, three battalions from Birmingham who served in the First World War, while a Second World War field hospital will be in action, treating battlefield casualties.

Inside the Guildhall itself there will be a static display of weaponry and equipment and a sale of history books.

Meanwhile, at Tudor House in Friar Street visitors will be able to step back into the 17th Century and chat to period characters such as an apothecary, or chemist.

Organiser Brian Bullock said: "This event is now in its fourth year and the group loves getting dressed up and having a great day with the public. The Worcester Re-enactors started as a social group from different re-enactment societies meeting in the pub on a Wednesday night for a drink and now it has progressed to holding this huge event. It's fantastic fun."

The event is free and runs between 10am and 4pm. For information call Mr Bullock on 07939 969 538 or e-mail sappeur2005@yahoo.co.uk
