Police are warning about a scam involving emails that appear to be from the UK’s energy regulator.
West Mercia Police has shared a scam warning from the Met Police’s Cyber Protect team, which says it has received 750 reports of fake Ofgem emails in just four days.
The emails look at first glance like they are from Ofgem and claim the recipient is eligible for a rebate as a result of a new Government scheme.
Links in the emails lead to genuine-looking websites, but these are actually designed to steal personal and financial information.
Police are asking anyone who receives one of these emails to report it by emailing report@phishing.gov.uk
