Six days later while still on police bail, he hit another man over the head with a bottle, putting him in hospital, and punched the victim's friend in the jaw.

Kolar, of Aycliffe Road, St Peter's, represented himself at Worcester Crown Court.

The defendant said he believed he had ADHD, he got in with the wrong crowd and his mother had multiple sclerosis.

But James Burbidge QC, honorary recorder of Worcester, told Kolar: "I'm satisfied that I would be failing in my duty to the citizens of Worcester if I did not send you immediately to custody."

Kolar admitted threats with a blade during the Bushwackers incident on July 4 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and battery on July 10.

Thomas Duggan, prosecuting, said Kolar started arguing with nightclub door staff at 1.45am when they would not let him in because he was drunk.

"He started threatening staff - threatening to slash them.

"He then said he was going to cut them up and reached inside his trousers.

"Door staff thought he would produce a knife. They restrained and searched him. He was unarmed," said Mr Duggan.

"He came back later with a knife with a 10-inch blade. He said 'come here - I will stab you'," said Mr Duggan.

He used offensive language to describe the door staff and said 'I will cut you up' and 'you're all dead - come here'.

Mr Duggan added: "He did this while waving the knife."

Police found Kolar hiding in a courtyard attached to a nearby flat.

Kolar was in a group and still on police bail when he hit a man over the head with a bottle of cider and punched him in the jaw, also punching his friend in the jaw.

The victim of the bottle attack had to be treated in A&E. Kolar has previous convictions for drunk and disorderly, battery and theft.

Kolar, representing himself, said at the time of the offence his mum was ill with MS.

"I was out drinking all the time, not working. I was just with the wrong type of people."

He explained he had been told by others he probably had ADHD but has never been diagnosed by a doctor.

"I don't really want to end up in custody - it would affect my mum," he said.

Judge Burbidge QC jailed him for 18 months, half of which he can expect to serve in custody and half on licence in the community.
