PART of a former city pub and carvery looks set to be turned into guesthouses under new plans.
A planning application for the eyesore empty Raven Inn in Droitwich Road, Worcester, has been put forward which would see the former carvery’s ‘play barn’ converted into seven new rooms.
The pub and restaurant closed in 2019 and has remained empty since.
The application does reference removing the former children’s play area and redesigning the garden for pub customers but it has not yet been confirmed whether it will be re-opening.

The plan by the Stonegate Pub Company, which runs a number of pubs and bars throughout the country including Be At One and Worcester city centre’s Slug and Lettuce, would see the building converted into seven apartments with ensuite bathrooms including two apartments on a new mezzanine floor.
A covered pergola and new patio and decking with outdoor seating and lighting would also be built.
Following the closure of the pub, the boarded-up site has fallen into a poor condition with the overgrown garden becoming an eyesore.
A statement included with the application: “The proposed development will result in the enhancement of a valuable community facility that has been vacant since 2019, in line with local and national policy.
“The proposed guestrooms will provide visitor accommodation in a sustainable, accessible location and the proposed garden works will provide improvement to an underutilised part of the site that will provide important outside space.”

A planning application to demolish the nearby former Harvester restaurant, also in Droitwich Road, and replace it with a 78-bed care home was submitted to the city council earlier this year and a decision is still to be made.
A controversial plan to build a McDonald’s drive thru on the site was eventually withdrawn in November 2019 after facing a wave of opposition from residents.
Hundreds of people spoke out against the plan saying a new McDonald’s should not be built near a school and would attract more litter and anti-social behaviour.
The plan can be viewed via Worcester City Council’s website.
The application number is 22/00310/FUL and you have until June 1 to have your say.
