A 21-year-old woman has told a judge she wants to get off drugs.

Sarah Spencer, of Chedworth Drive, Warndon, stole £65 worth of perfume from a pharmacy in Dines Green, Worcester, in order to fund her drug habit.

Before that she and a male accomplice used a child's buggy to hide meat joints they stole from the Tesco Express store in London Road.

At Worcester Magistrates Court Rob Macrory, defending, said: "Sarah Spencer is right at the desperate end of the scale in terms of wanting help."

Mark Johnson, prosecuting, told the court Spencer - who had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of theft - made full and frank admissions when interviewed by police.

Deputy District Judge John Begley said, after reading a Probation Service pre-sentence report, he was keen to make her subject to a drug rehabilitation requirement, but he wanted to know if Spencer was serious about seeking help.

In reply Spencer said: "I want to get off drugs."

She was sentenced to a community order with 12-months supervision and a nine-month DRR. She will also pay compensation to both businesses plus £60 court costs.
