A COURT has told a Tenbury Wells man not to return to a town pub for 12 months after he behaved "disgracefully" when door staff asked him to leave.
Samuel Shevels shouted abuse at passing police officers and assaulted one of them when he was ejected from the Bridge pub in Teme Street.
Appearing before Worcester magistrates, Shevels, 22, admitted assault and using words or behaviour that could cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Douglas Marshall, prosecuting, said officers stopped outside the pub just after 11pm on Saturday, September 8, after spotting a disturbance.
Mr Marshall said Shevels was protesting at being ejected from the pub and, when an officer stopped him going back in, he became aggressive, shouting obscenities and insults.
Officers arrested Shevels but on the way to the police station he began waving his arms around violently and grabbed one officer by the neck pulling him towards him.
Both officers struggled to restrain Shevels on the road outside the car before eventually using CS spray.
Mr Marshall added: "He calmed down but continued to use abusive and threatening behaviour.
"He had to be restrained from banging his head on the tarmac and later banged his head on the side of the police van and slumped to the ground in an unconscious state."
Andy Childs, defending, said Shevels, of Oak Tree Close, Burford, Tenbury Wells, had left the pub to smoke a cigarette when someone suggested he might be drug dealing.
He said: "He wasn't but the word spread and door staff came out and would not let him back in the premises."
Mr Childs said Shevels stood his ground and was "handled robustly" by door staff.
He said Shevels had said things he later regretted and had apologised to the officer.
The court heard he had recently served a three-day prison sentence which had shocked him, but now had a girlfriend and hoped to get a job with the help of the Prince's Trust.
Deputy district judge Ian Strongman called it "disgraceful behaviour" and sentenced him to a 12 month community order with a curfew between 8pm and 6am for the next three months.
He was also ordered him to stay away from the pub for 12 months.
