A French Bulldog owner has spoken out about the proposal to ban the popular breed.

Vanessa Ayliffe who is selling one of her French Bulldogs, says that it's unfair to ban the dogs completely.

Miss Ayliffe said: "I do think they are getting a bit overbred, a lot of breeds are getting quite overbred. It's a good idea to breed them properly, but I wouldn't ban them completely."

The pet owner said overbreeding means French Bulldogs have flatter noses which can lead to health problems.

A Blue Cross campaign has been launched to try and ban 'poor breeding of flat-faced dogs.'

Miss Ayliffe, who lives in Evesham, has been a pet owner for three years and said: "It's about making sure they are healthy because you hear all the horror stories.

"I don't want to sell something the new owners can keep breeding.

"We want to sell full pets.

"We have kids, so a family environment is what the dogs are used to."

Miss Ayliffe believes that Kennel Club (KC) registered dogs are more likely to be sold for breeding.

She said: "We are selling without papers and some people don't want to know."

Miss Ayliffe has sold other dogs on Gum Tree for £845 and she says that some people are more interested in the female dogs.

She says: "Do you know what, if that's what you're interested in, then our dogs are not for you.

"Ours don't come with papers and we hope that they don't become a breeding machine."

Miss Ayliffe insists on doing background checks on potential buyers to ensure the dogs are going to a safe and healthy environment.

"We've turned people away, we're not breeders, we are pet owners.

"But if they are going to a good home we would reduce the price anyway."
