FAMILIES came out in force to try out the eagerly-awaited new play area in Malvern's Priory Park.

The new play park, which cost £500,000 officially opened on April 14 and families could be seen enjoying their first use of the park on Good Friday.

Work has been ongoing since the start of the new year revamping the play area, which is a £500,000 project by Malvern Hills District Council.

It includes natural boulders, hobbit holes, a hollow tree trunk, rope bridge, basket swing and a giant dragonfly.

The council worked alongside Avery Landscapes Ltd for the project, using sustainable timber and ground materials to revamp the park.

The proposed revamp has been in the works for a number of years, with plans being published in 2016 and 2019.

A consultation as far back as 2016 revealed the need for a more modern and more inspiring play area was needed.

In 2016 more than 440 people responded to the consultation with a third rating it as poor to very poor and two thirds branding it too small.

Cllr Peter Whatley, portfolio holder for resources at MHDC, said: "We want to thank our partners on this project for their hard work and to the public for their patience.
