IT WAS cheers all round yesterday after two deserving food outlets in Worcester received excellent scores for their hygiene standards.
Cherry Orchard Cafe scooped top marks in Worcester City Council's new Scores on the Doors food hygiene ratings launched earlier this week.
Also celebrating were the owners of Ingrams News in Claines, which achieved a four-star award for its hygiene following a re-inspection of its premises.
The Cherry Orchard cafe, situated in the Cherry Orchard Day Centre on Orchard Street, is partly run by adults with learning difficulties, and was one of only eight Worcester food outlets which have so far achieved five stars for their food hygiene and safety from the city's environmental health team.
Stephen Chandler, the county's head of learning disabilities, said: "This is a real achievement, and a credit to the staff and service users at Cherry Orchard Cafe."
Meanwhile, Ingrams News, a newsagent on St Annes Road, was re-inspected yesterday after the city council revealed it had received no stars - the worst possible rating - for its hygiene in an inspection last summer.
And owner Pravin Parmar said he was "very pleased" that the improvements he has made since August have now scooped him a four-star award. The results of all the city's hygiene inspections from the past six months can be found at www.scoresonthedoors. org.uk.
