A PLAN to build an adventure playground and mini golf course in Evesham has been backed by council planners.
The new proposal will see a new 18-hole adventure golf course and high rope course and zipwire built at The Valley shopping centre in Evesham after receiving support from planners at Wychavon District Council.
The applications showed a themed mini golf course that will include rocks, temples and bridges, water features and a grounded spitfire fighter plane and 4x4 jeep.
The high ropes course will include a combination of cables and obstacles six metres above the adventure golf course.
A report outlining the council’s approval said: “The proposal comprises tourist development which is compatible with the retail, and forthcoming holiday lodge, offer within the wider park and the wider vision for the park.
“The proposal would also result in some job creation and may encourage visits to the park and associated spend by visitors.
“The site is served by ample parking in conjunction with the existing leisure and retail offer and is also accessible by public transport means. It is not considered that additional car parking would be required to accommodate the proposal.”
Space for an adventure playground was included as part of the original vision for The Valley when it was backed in 2014 but the planning permission expired as no work had been carried out.
A statement included with the application said: “Adventure golf is similar to mini golf in that it is played in a short form putting format. Unlike minigolf, adventure golf is themed throughout the course, to simulate an adventure throughout the 18 holes.
“High ropes involve participants being harnessed into a safety line while they traverse a ropes course up to six metres above the ground. Participants will navigate around the course, which will be situated above the adventure golf course, and will climax in a zipwire from the zenith of the high ropes, back to the start of the course at ground level.”
The council had agreed to put aside £1 million to build a new cycling hub at the shopping centre but those plans were later scrapped.
