Izzy's Ices and Donuts is a hidden gem tucked away in Reindeer Court.

Outside the dessert shop, there is a selection of treats ready to entice potential customers.

Once you enter you are welcomed with the smell of freshly made doughnuts.

Alongside the pastries, the menu is filled with Filipino influences, including a drink called Halo-Halo that has been recently added to the menu.

Halo Halo is a  popular drink in the Philippines but it might be a bit unusual for British tastebuds.

The drink is a fusion of sweet and savoury flavours including preserved fruit, jam, tapioca, coconut strips, sweet potato, garbanzo beans, sweetcorn and more.

Halo-Halo translates to mix-mix because you have to mix all of the ingredients together and taste all of the flavours at once.

In short, the key to this drink is mix, mix, mix.

The softness of the flan, sweet potato and preserved fruit is a refreshing contrast with the crunchy ice making this drink exuberant.

Ice plays a huge part in the beverage, which makes sense because of the hot tropical climate that the Philippines enjoys all year round.

The ice gives the drink a slushie texture and helps mesh all of the ingredients together.

The drink is a taste journey, your first spoon is filled with flan (which tastes a little like crème brûlée,) ice, sweet potato, preserved fruit, sweetcorn and condensed milk that is drizzled over the top.

It tasted like nothing I have tried before.

The smoothie is refreshing and quirky while tasting like a party in your mouth.

We would definitely recommend you try it for yourself, but if we could give you a little piece of advice before you order - hold off the sweetcorn.
