A CRASH has delayed a huge vehicle with a police escort on its way toward Worcestershire.
The large specialist vehicle, the size of three canals boats, is currently on its way to Feckenham Substation, carrying a transformer.
It was originally set to pass through Droitwich at around 5pm, but a crash earlier in the day held up the journey.
National Grid said a crash on the A43 near Fewcott, Northamptonshire, has delayed arrival by around an hour.
The transformer will replace ageing equipment at the substation on Alcester Road to strengthen the electricity system in the region.
Having started at Sundon Substation in Chalton, Bedfordshire, the lorry has been limited to a maximum speed of 20mph.
Currently travelling along the M40 near Warwickshire, the transporter will pass through Droitwich Spa before making its way to Feckenham via Hanbury Road/Salt Way (B4090).
It is expected to pass through Droitwich sometime between 6 and 6:30pm.
A police escort is accompanying the massive vehicle in order to help manage traffic.
Some street furniture along the route will be temporarily removed to ensure the transporter convoy is able to progress safely.
Residents and businesses along the route have been advised to avoid parking on the road while the transporter convoy passes their property.
Speaking earlier this week, project engineer for National Grid, Edward Gomersall, said: “This transformer movement has been many months in the planning, and we’ve worked hard to try and minimise any disruption deliveries of this kind can cause.
“We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the local community during this vital work.”
