A TEENAGER who was caught on CCTV repeatedly kicking someone as they lay unconscious on the ground has been remanded in custody awaiting sentence.
Nineteen-year-old Stephen Fellows said he had been hit once by his friend, Albert Smith, who then tripped on the pavement and fell, landing on his back.
Fellows then started repeatedly kicking Mr Smith as he lay unconscious on the ground in Deansway, Worcester, on Sunday, January 27.
The event was captured on CCTV and footage was shown at the city's magistrates court on Tuesday, January 29.
Lesley Ashton, defending, said police officers received a call at 10.10pm saying there was a man lying unconscious on the ground.
The man, who is an alcoholic, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he was treated for head injuries but he did not want to make a formal statement and did not wish police to take matters further.
Miss Ashton said Fellows has anger management issues and when alcohol is involved he becomes "violent and unpredictable".
Judith Kenney, defending, said Fellows did not start the fight and showed remorse for the incident.
"When he realised what he had done he went back and phoned an ambulance," she said. "I have no evidence of whether Mr Smith was unconscious on the ground because of drink or because of the assault."
Fellows, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to affray when he appeared in court and was remanded in custody until Tuesday, February 19, when he will be sentenced.
