WORCESTERSHIRE residents are being warned about a scam in which people are tricked into handing money to fake police officers.
West Mercia Police have said there have been three reports to them about the scam across the region, including in Worcestershire within a 24 hour period between yesterday and today (April 6 and April 7).
As part of the scam, offenders claiming to be police extort money by asking for bank transfer, with the victim withdrawing cash for collection by the scammers.
Police said: "Please check that your family and friends are aware."
The also shared a poster saying "Scam Alert - The police will never ask you to hand over any money or purchase vouchers.
"If you ever get a call from anyone asking you to transfer money or pay with vouchers, stop, hang up and verify."
