MOTORISTS are being warned as a huge vehicle with police escort will cause disruption as it travels at 20mph from Droitwich to Feckenham.
A large specialist vehicle, the same size as three canal boats, will be heading to Feckenham Substation on Saturday, April 9.
The vehicle, which will be carrying the transformer, will be travelling at a maximum speed of 20mph.
The move from a Sundon substation in Chalton, Bedfordshire was originally planned for last month but was delayed.
The transformer will replace ageing equipment at the substation on Alcester Road to strengthen the electricity system in the region.
Leaving the A38 at the B4065 junction, the transporter will approach Feckenham from Droitwich Spa along Hanbury Road/Salt Way (B4090).
It is expected that the transformer will be delivered to Feckenham by around 6.30 pm.
National Grid say the route has been carefully planned in collaboration with local highway authorities to minimise disruption and those directly affected have been informed.
Residents and businesses along the route have been advised to avoid parking on the road while the transporter convoy passes their property.
Edward Gomersall, project engineer for National Grid said: “This transformer movement has been many months in the planning, and we’ve worked hard to try and minimise any disruption deliveries of this kind can cause.
“We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the local community during this vital work.”
People planning to travel along the route of the transformer movement are recommended to try to find alternative routes or allow additional journey time.
The vehicle will have a police escort to help manage traffic and some street furniture along the route will be temporarily removed to ensure the transporter convoy is able to progress safely.
