THE Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Stephen Inman, has spoken of his concerns about Government plans to build thousands of homes in Worcester.
Coun Inman addressed St Peter's Parish Council at its latest meeting, where he said the city faced "enormous" expansion over the next 20 years because of the Regional Spatial Strategy, in which the Government proposes to build in excess of 10,500 new homes.
"I think there's going to be overcrowding in local schools and hospitals," he said.
"Worcester has built more-or-less to its boundaries.
"I'm not sure we are going to like it in a generation's time, but we have got to try to make the best of it, although that sounds a bit defeatist."
Speaking at Monday's meeting, Coun Inman said development should not be allowed "at any price" and called for any necessary infrastructure to be 'discrete'.
