CHANGES have been made to a housing development which will see more than 300 homes built on the edge of the city.

Major housing developer Persimmon has put forward new plans which will see the number of new homes built on the edge of Worcester reduced to 319 – 41 fewer than previously planned.

The developer already has permission to build up to 300 homes on land off Swinesherd Lane in Spetchley near Worcester and submitted a new application for an extra 60 last year.

Following discussions with the council, a new plan asking to build an extra 19 new homes on the same patch of land has now been put forward.

Of the 300 homes due to be built, 204 have already been constructed and a further 96 are currently being built.

A statement included with the application said: “The site is a sustainable location for housing, being well related to the existing settlement pattern and possessing good accessibility to existing services and facilities, including public transport, schools and local services.

Much needed affordable housing will be delivered at a policy compliant level.

“The site can be accessed in a safe manner with no adverse impact on the local highway network.

“The proposal will protect the existing green infrastructure network and aim to deliver biodiversity enhancements where possible.”
