HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to an "amazing man" after he died from melanoma.

Mike Hull, of Witton in Droitwich, died at the age of 67 on Saturday morning following a long battle with skin cancer which started in 2016.

Carol Hull, Mike's wife, said her husband had fought a brave battle, trying a multitude of treatments after being told there was no cure for his cancer.

He also ran a campaign to raise money for a mole mapping machine, ultimately raising £40,000 in the past few months.

Mrs Hull said "Droitwich was in shock" to hear that Mike, a painter and decorator known to many in the town, had died.

Carol said: "I think the was ready, his body was ready, the tumours were growing too fast to control.

"The last thing he knew he could do was donate his tumours for research, so this week he is travelling to St Thomas' Hospital in London where the tumours will be removed for research.

"He was still thinking of others right up to the very end, he was an amazing person.

"This will be his legacy that he will leave behind to help others. I am just so proud of him."

During his various treatments, Mike travelled across the country and never lost his optimism.

Carol said: "He has been everywhere, he started in Worcester but we lost the oncologist here so we transferred to Oxford.

"When we ran out of treatment, we managed to get into the Royal Marsden in London. So for the last couple of years, he travelled every couple of weeks to London for the trial drug he was on.

"When that started working he went on a phase 1 drug trial and was the first in the UK to test it, he was 1 of 7 in the world.

"Unfortunately that did not work, he did not give up, he then tried chemotherapy even with the knowledge it probably wouldn't work.

During his battle with skin cancer, Mr Hull wanted to raise funds for a mole mapping machine that will give other people a chance to spot melanomas sooner, which recently reached £40,000.

Carol said: "Mike wanted a celebration of life before he died, which he used as an opportunity to fundraise for the mole mapping machine.

"We tied it in with a fundraiser and we raised around £4000.

"From November to now we have reached this amazing total.

"We have just reached £40,000 and we only raised £6000 up to last November.

"There is still so much fundraising happening nearby, we have football teams throughout the region fundraising for him and we have people knitting teddy bears to sell which will all contribute to funding the mole mapping machine.

"I am confident we will hit the goal of £55,000."
