STAFF at a care home wore pants over their uniforms to help a colleague who is trekking in Peru raise money for charity. Helen Saunders is walking the Inca Trail in May to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, and her colleagues at Heathlands Care Home in Pershore supported her by holding the Pants for Peru day. Candie Baker, home manager, said: "Although it was a fun day, the funds raised are going to a charity which represents a very serious illness. Working with older people, we are all aware how Alzheimer's can affect individuals and their families. This is why we are determined to help Helen reach her £2,800 target." One in 14 people over the age of 65 and one in six people over 80 suffer from the illness, making a total of 700,000 Alzheimer's sufferers in the country.
