A HUGE specialist vehicle will be coming to Feckenham this weekend to transport a new electricity transformer.

The National Grid will be moving a transformer from its Sundon substation in Chalton, Bedfordshire to Feckenham substation on Saturday, March 19.

It comes as the Feckenham substation on Alcester Road is being upgraded and ageing equipment is being replaced to help strengthen the electricity system in the region.

The transformer will be coming to Feckenham on a very large specialist vehicle, which measures 65 metres in length- roughly the equivalent of three canal boats.

It will travel at a maximum speed of 20 miles per hour.

The transporter will approach Feckenham from Droitwich Spa along Hanbury Road/Salt Way (B4090).

It is expected that the transformer will be delivered to Feckenham by approximately 6.30pm.

Residents and businesses along the route have been advised to avoid parking on the road while the transporter convoy passes their property.

Anyone planning to travel along the route of the transformer is recommended to try to find alternative routes or allow additional journey time.

Edward Gomersall, project engineer for National Grid said: “This transformer movement has been many months in the planning, and we’ve worked hard to try and minimise any disruption deliveries of this kind can cause. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the local community during this vital work.”

The vehicle will have a police escort to help manage traffic and some street furniture along the route will be temporarily removed to ensure the transporter convoy is able to progress safely.
