CHILDREN are being warned about the dangers of street lights after three youngsters were caught tampering with a lamppost in Worcester.
Three children believed to be aged nine or 10-years-old were seen interfering with a live lamppost in Ennerdale Close, Brickfields, about 7.40pm on Friday.
Police are now in the process of trying to identify the youngsters, who were all wearing hoodies, and ran off when approached by a local resident.
A police spokesman said: "We want to speak to them and their parents to emphasise the high risk of interfering with the workings of a live street light. It is highly fortunate that no-one was hurt.
"But it is not just those who initially tinker with the lights who face potential danger. There may be others, perhaps younger and less knowing, who come along and see wires hanging loosely from a control box - that would normally be secure - and are tempted to touch them."
Anyone who knows who the youngsters are or has any other useful information should contact police on 08457 444888, quoting 665S/250108. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
