A BAND whose music has been used on Netflix’s Sex Education have their first gig in Worcester at the end of the month.

Year of the Dog, responsible for what’s referred to as “the fresh brasshouse-soul sound” emanating from from Cardiff, formed at the Royal Welsh College of Music from where they recently graduated.

In their first year alone the Dogs were invited to play festival MainStage slots, perform live on Heart Radio Wales twice, and appear on Netflix’s Sex Education as the Swing Band, performing their own hit tune Run These Streets (episode three of the first series).

After the pandemic sweeping away their summer tour, Year of the Dog focused their energies on putting together a new album, Bad Taste, earning a feature on BBC News titled ‘How to be a Band in a Pandemic’ and an interview on BBC primetime Radio.

The Year of the Dog, namely Felix Lindsell-Hales (vocals and guitar), Jacob Prescott (bass), Luke Hartley (drums), Olly Jenkins (vocals and saxophone), Peter Richards (bass trombone) and Gareth Thomas (trumpet), play the Marrs Bar in Worcester on Sunday, March 27.

Vocalist Felix said: “Our set at Marrs Bar is the third and final gig on our weekend tour playing Birmingham, Leeds, and Worcester.

“This summer we’ll also be playing Nozstock Festival Friday mainstage, as well as the BBC Horizons stage at In It Together Festival.

“We love Worcester as a city and hope to return often!”

Doors open at 7pm on Sunday, March 27. Tickets are priced £7 in advance and £10 on the door. Tickets can be bought by calling 01905 613336, at Marrs Bar in person or at https://www.wegottickets.com/searchresults/location
