A NEW fuel depot could be built on land near a park-and-ride facility in Worcester.

Countrywide, which is based in Earls Croome, wants to install two new fuel storage tanks on land next to allotments in John Comyn Drive, Perdiswell.

Operations manager Steve Richardson said: "Countrywide has a strong customer base for Autogas in Worcester, as well as a growing network of Autogas sites around the country because as the price of diesel and petrol continues to rise, consumers are turning more and more to Autogas as the cheaper and greener alternative.

"As a result, we are actively seeking further possible sites around Worcester in addition to our site in The Butts to meet customer demand."

If it gets the go ahead it will mean privately-owned vehicles will have 24-hour access to the site in John Comyn Drive, which is currently unoccupied.

The energy supplier is proposing to build a refuelling compound to serve owners of autogas vehicles.

The plans consist of installing two one-tonne LPG storage tanks set on a concrete slab surrounded by chainlink fencing.

A separate fuel dispenser compound and refuelling bay that will be able to cater for between 10 and 15 vehicles every day will be inset into the main compound for customers.

As the system will operate using PIN, all users will have to have an account with Countrywide Farmers Energy.
